I have a wonderful, yet messy husband. If it can be spilled, he will spill it. He is also allergic to both mold and dust mites. I need air flow to prevent mold. I need protection to prevent both mold and ruined mattress. I need to be able to wash it (remember the messy). If it is only latex, I guess there would be no dust mites, but that isn’t washable. I know that I have to have some sort of waterproof/resistant something or we will have coffee, and who knows what-all soaking into the latex. But I am so frustrated with how to solve all of these problems and am not buying a mattress until I know that I have it protected even before we put it on the bed.
Latex itself can be washed with soap and water and air dried. The wool cover is what you have to worry about. Most mattress protectors are warmer to sleep on due to the air flow restriction of the waterproof materials. To offset that negative we carry a copper infused waterproof mattress protector. Copper will not only help with circulation but also is used to dissipate heat. It’s the best solution I’ve found. You can also get a thick mattress pad and hope that it’s thick enough to catch any spill but you would be taking a risk.
Thank you for the great question.
