Mattress recommendation - medium weight side sleeper

I’ve recently decided to hop back in the market for a new mattress. I had always slept on a box spring mattress previous to my most recent memory foam mattress and had recently realized I had slept better before I bought this current mattress. 2 years ago I bought the nectar premier mattress, because it was said to be “the best” as far as marketing and ads go. I realized I fell into the marketing gimmick on this one.

Very recently what made me realize my current mattress wasn’t doing it anymore was after I had slept on an old box spring mattress at work. This thing had to be years old and was pretty used but still worked better than my nectar.

I have done some research and latex hybrid seems like the go to. For reference, I am a 190lb strict side sleeper. I’ll lay on my back only when I’m on my phone but never wake up on my back so I’m a true side sleeper.

In my final search, these mattresses were at the top of my list, most latex with some hybrids

Nest bedding owl in plush soft - latex hybrid with coils

Nest bedding finch medium - all latex

DLX LatexLux Hybrid 12" Soft or medium?

Purple Restore Soft

Serta Perfect Sleeper Pro Level 3 Valais Plush Pillow Top

Mattress Factory in San Diego?

Not really concerned about the purple or the Serta, but they were frequently recommended for my side sleeping and my need for wanting to sink into the mattress. I’m not a fan of memory foam after my current mattress, I don’t think I’ve ever slept on memory foam before.

Per my experience I’m looking for something that is medium soft. I only have some pressure in my shoulder with this current memory foam but didn’t have any shoulder pressure on that old rickety mattress! Some lower back soreness but nothing major.

I also see maverick all over this forum, would like a recommendation on which of the DLX mattresses I should look into based off of my preferences.

As far problems with my current mattress goes, it’s really not that comfortable to me. I can sleep on just about anything being in my 20s, but would prefer something that is more comfortable. I toss and turn and find it difficult to fall asleep. I don’t fall sleep on my shoulder anymore either because this medium firmness mattress feels like a firm. My shoulder doesn’t really sink in and I sleep with my leg across my body on this mattress just because I don’t feel like I sink in enough. Doesn’t feel bad if you are a back sleeper however! I’ve forced myself to fall asleep on my back a couple of times and don’t get any lower back soarness doing so. I sleep most comfortable on my side and like a more soft mattress.

My current mattress is the nectar premier all foam medium firmness, this is the previous model from 2021

Thanks for considering DLX.

As a side sleeper, we’d recommend the 14" over the 12". The 12" model uses a 6" pocket coil, while the 14" uses an 8" coil. The cushioning above the coils is identical in both mattresses, but the support differs. The shorter coil in the 12" provides a firmer, more supportive feel. We generally don’t recommend the 12" for side sleepers unless there’s a strong preference for a firmer mattress.

For most side sleepers, the hips and shoulders sink deeper into the mattress, engaging the coil system more. The 6" pocket coil we use has a firmer feel so as you sink in as a side sleeper, it will feel firmer whereas the 8" coil has a little more cushioning due to its taller design. Back and stomach sleepers, on the other hand, tend to distribute their weight more evenly, so the difference between the 12" and 14" (6" vs. 8" coil) may be less noticeable.

If you’re finding it difficult to sink in on the Nectar, we’d suggest reconsidering latex as an option. Latex is buoyant and resilient where you sleep more on it than in it. Our Premier model does not use memory foam. It uses a 2.4 lb. high-density foam that provides a softer feel on average compared to latex.

The Premier and LatexLux are identical except for the 3" comfort layer. Within the first 120 nights, you can upgrade from the Premier to the LatexLux by paying the cost difference between the two. When upgrading, we send out a latex layer that replaces the foam layer and allowing you to convert your Premier into a LatexLux without replacing the entire mattress. However, if you start with the LatexLux and later decide you’d prefer the cushioning of the Premier, we can’t refund the difference in cost.
