Mattress suggestions please! 🙏🏻

Hi!!
I am currently mattress shopping.

I;

  • have Kyphosis (spine disease)
  • have naturally curved inward shoulders (due to Kyphosis)
  • have had a spinal fusion
  • have a herniated disc
  • have arthritis
  • have Spina Bifida Occulta
  • Am around 240 lbs
  • Am a hot sleeper
  • A lone sleeper (plus a small cat occasionally)
  • toss and turn
  • have a latex allergy
  • Am 29 but got told my spine is somewhere in the 40’s by a doctor.
  • Have trouble getting myself into an upright position to get out of bed occasionally

I would love any suggestions yall can throw at me!!! I experience a lot of pain just…everywhere basically, because of my different afflictions. My last mattress I bought was a Plush Memory Foam from Sealy which I now realize was a huge mistake. I am looking into Hybrid mattresses with the DLX premier hybrid as my top choice, just very nervous about not being able to try it in person first. Unsure whether medium or firm would be better for me too. I love the feel of plush mattresses but the support is nonexistent, so I’m down to grin and bear it if I need to get a firm.

Thank you for any input!!

@BackScience

I am happy to utilize my 20+ years of mattress design and see if I can also shed some light on what could really help your situation. You definitely do have many challenges that you’re facing with so many issues, that have all combined to cause the chronic pain you are facing, so the best path to a successful sleeping situation is addressing how to allow your spine to be supported in a proper alignment and maintain that alignment over time

Given your specific needs, I’d like to suggest taking a close look at the Back Science Series 2 Hybrid mattress. Here’s why I think it could be a good option for you:

  • Targeted Spinal Support: The Series 2 features our patented Lumbar-Flex Zoned Support. As a chiropractor, I designed this system to provide very specific support to the lower back, which is crucial for maintaining proper spinal alignment and managing pain, especially with your spinal fusion and kyphosis. It’s not just general firmness; it’s targeted support where you need it most.
  • Pressure Relief with Stability: While you mentioned the plush feel of your old memory foam mattress being a mistake, you also don’t want to get something so firm that it isn’t comfortable and won’t reduce pressure points instead, especially when you can purchase a mattress that will properly balance your need for comfort and support. The Back Science Series 2 strikes that balance. The hypergel-infused foam layers provide excellent pressure relief to cushion your hips and other painful areas, while the innerspring coils offer a stable and supportive base. The feel is somewhere between latex and memory foam, but without the allergy component of latex and with the higher level of pressure relief that is closer to memory foam, only easier to move around and less of that getting “stuck” feeling, which you mentioned is a concern when getting in and out of bed.
  • Temperature Regulation: Since you’re a hot sleeper, temperature regulation is key. The Back Science Series 2 incorporates our patented Airflow Transfer System, which utilizes thousands of small ventilated surface holes in the top foam layering that connects with open channels underneath to allow the warmer heat generating off your body to exchange with the cooler room air, bringing up to 100 times more breathability to the mattress and thereby helping to dissipate body heat, keeping you cooler throughout the night.

If budget is a major concern, the Back Science Essentials mattress is a more affordable option. It’s an all-foam mattress and offers good support, but it doesn’t have the coil system of the Series 2, which contributes to the Series 2’s responsiveness and support. It’s also customizable, like all Back Science mattresses.

One of the big advantages of Back Science is that we offer a 365-night sleep trial. So, you can really try the Series 2 in your own home and see if it provides the relief you need. And if it’s not quite right, we offer free customizations to adjust the firmness and support.

I hope this helps give you some direction. I know it’s a lot to navigate, but I believe the Back Science Series 2 is worth considering, given your specific situation and if you do make a purchase, be sure to use the TMU10 discount code to receive an additional 10% off as a Mattress Underground member.
