Mattresses247 Warranty and Shipping Question

To begin with, let me say I think Mattress Warranties in general are pretty useless and create a false sense of security. In most (if not all) cases, your mattress will only be warranted if it has a major fail and is clearly do to a component defect. Often this is hard to prove. That said … I have been able to get one inner spring mattress warranty replaced.

I just purchased an all Latex Mattress from Mattresses 247 on Wednesday. The key selling point, besides wanting to try a Latex bed, was the ability to unzip the cover and simply replace any component of the bed that might fail. In my case, this would be 1 of the 3 layers of Latex, or the cover itself. This was a huge selling point because in my experience, something is going to fail sooner or later.

But After the purchase I did realize that I did not see who, if anyone warranted the Mattresses sold by M247. I have seen a few threads where this was kicked around, but never saw where anyone actually found out for sure if there was a warranty. Not that it really matters, but did anyone find out if these Latex Beds have any kind of Warranty beyond M247’s 30 return policy?

Also, if anyone has ordered from Mattresses247, how long did it take to receive the mattress. I ordered on Wed. and according to eBay it is yet to ship.

Hi MrM1,

As you probably know from your reading here … I couldn’t agree with you more and a mattress warranty has very little to do with the useful life of a mattress and how long you will sleep well on it (see post #174 here).

The warranty would depend on whether you purchased an actual mattress with separate components that had passed the fire regulations “as a mattress” in which case the warranty would be provided by the manufacturer or whether you purchased 3 latex layers and a cover as individual components (not an actual mattress) in which case I believe the warranty is 3 years according to this post.

A forum search on mattresses 24/7 and mattresses247 (you can just click both links) will bring up more information and feedback about them and with a very quick scan I say a couple of posts that indicated delivery was around a couple of weeks (although I probably missed some so you may want to check them in more detail).

Most importantly … congratulations on your new mattress

Thanks, I searched the forum on 247, but only used the former and not the later query.

Ours was purchased as a mattress so Ill check the link you posted. If I would have been given the option to purchase the pieces separate i probably would have selected a slightly more firm ILD on each of the 3 pieces. I tend to think after reading, that the 22-24 top (which will be something like a 6 or 7 in the DreamFoam line) may break in and soften up too much a month to a year down the road and tend to have independent premature body impressions. But that is just a speculated guess from reviews and research. The option to select separates was not an option.

As to shipping … Matresses247 has not shipped yet - 2 full days after purchase. Seems as to shipping they are more like an Amazon seller than an eBay seller (my experience with Amazon is the sellers dont get in a hurry to send things out).

Hi MrM1,

I’m not sure of your weight but latex is the most durable of all the foam materials and will soften less and more slowly than either polyfoam or memory foam which are the other two types of foam that you would otherwise be sleeping on. Latex softening certainly isn’t enough to warrant taking it into account as part of your choice and the best approach with latex is to choose the firmness that you would do best with when you purchase it without basing your choice on what it will feel like down the road. Only if you were “on the edge” of two firmness choices and couldn’t decide between them would I choose the firmer of the two because it’s easier to soften a mattress that is too firm than to firm up a mattress that is too soft (unless you have individual components that you can rearrange or exchange),

Our Weights:
His - 180 / 5’9" / Mostly Side and Semi-side Front sleeper
Hers - 140 / 5’7" / Mostly Side and Back sleeper

We chose the “Sweet Dreams” Mattress option from Mattresses 247 on eBay

  • 9" Mattress all Talalay Blended Latex
  • Quilted Bamboo zipper cover
  • 3" Soft 22-24 (Cal-King solid piece)
  • 3" Medium 30-32 (Split and glued. Reversible with the Firm)
  • 3" Firm 38-40 (Split same as Medium)

We are currently sleeping on a 7 year old slightly sagging Sealy (probably comfort layer break down) with a 3" memory foam topper (weight?). So I think the soft latex top will probably be about the same or similar softness (maybe even a bit less at first). But this configuration should serve us well.

But Those numbers from Mattresses 247 seem kinda confusing to me. I believe these layers are actually going to be the same ones that would ship from SleepEZ. I know they are a Radium Latex Product. But what seems odd (and I know this is how SleepEZ does it too) is that the numbers are ranges and NOT specific ILD Numbers. Is the top going to be closer to a 22 or a 24. In Brooklyn Bedding terms 6 = 24 ILD which they rate as a Medium and their most typical topper. And they use to have a 7 which was a 22 and moved toward their Soft topper. So with a RANGE, how can you know if it is closer to a 22 that would be in the soft direction or a 24 which is starting to move toward a Medium in firmness?

But overall I think this mattress will be fine. Looking forward to its arrival. My biggest concern is if it softens too much … it will be hard to make it more firm. But I will have the “flippable” cores.

And Good news … The Mattress shipped Monday … So it is slated to arrive Friday. Not too bad on the shipping after all. I am thinking of starting a Diary Thread for Mattress 247 and update it thru the first year. I do not see a lot of long term experience here once members get their mattresses.

Hi MrM1,

All latex comes in a range of ILD’s and is never an exact number either across the surface or from layer to layer see post #6 here). Some retailers or manufacturers specify the “rated” average number and some specify the range. You can see the typical ILD range for Radiumlatexhereforeachoftheirfirmnesshttps://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/0https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/1https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/2https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/3https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/4https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/5https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/6https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/7https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/8https://uploads.mattressunderground.com/outside/966/NewRadiumILD1_2014-04-17.gif]Radium0feel.

One of the advantages of component mattresses is that you can always make it firmer either by moving firmer layers up or moving softer layers down in the mattress.

Congratulations on your new mattress

I’m looking forward to your feedback when you receive it.

Then that still does not seem to square. Mattresses247’s Range for soft is 22-24. Radium’s S5 is Targeted at 21.8 ILD +/-2.5 and Their S6 is Targeted at 25.1 ILD +/-1.7. At 22-24 which would it be, the S5 or the S6 piece of Radium Latex? It seems that Mattresses 247’s Range of 22-24 falls in the middle between Radium’s S5 and S6 latex and not in the ranges of either of those pieces.

Hi MrM1,

The ILD listings that manufactuers use are often just approximations that take into account both the most common and “normal” variations in the ILD’s of specific manufacturers and also the variations in ILD between different manufacturers that they may also carry. They are approximations that can help their customers choose the different combinations of layers with a level of accuracy that would be “close enough” but will never be “exact” and may also not be specific to a particular manufacturer because they may change suppliers from time to time.

If you are looking for more specific information outside of more generic descriptions that would be “close enough” for most people then you can also call the retailer or manufacturer (in this case Mattresses 24/7) who should be able to provide you with the more information about the specific materials you are ordering.

Hi MrM1, I also purchased a mattress from mattresses247. The ebay listing gave a few weeks expected delivery time when I bought mine and it showed up in about a week (sooner than I was expecting it). If you have questions about anything, warranty or about your mattress being sent etc I’d try going to their website. Either emailing or calling Valerie, she was really prompt and helpful when I dealt with her and seemed more than happy to answer questions (ie, didn’t rush me off the phone or anything). Mine arrived in 3 large boxes, one for each layer - around 50lbs each (queen size). Hope this helps.

Thanks

Mine arrived today. 1 week 2 days after order. Set up was easy, looks good , seems good

Hi MrM1,

That’s good news … thanks for the update
