Might need to switch to coils

160 lb side sleeper considering going with coils instead of full latex. I’ve tried a ton of different configurations with my all latex custom build, all different combos of 6" soft talalay core, 2" soft dunlop topper, and two 2" soft talalay toppers all from APM, but it’s not working out. if the two 2" soft toppers aren’t on top, theres too much pressure on my shoulders. With the two soft on top, my shoulders feel fine but I wake up many times a night tossing and turning with lower back pain and every morning with very stiff lower back. I tried taking a picture of my spine while laying down, but honestly all I could see was that there’s really no way for my whole spine to be straight because my shoulders prop up my upper body a lot.

I don’t even know where to begin with coils - I have a 10 inch encasement so it might be convenient to go with 6" coils, but I can put toppers outside if 8" is necessary. It’s also be nice if I can get just a twinxl half to try on my half of a king size…mostly because I don’t think you can return coils and it’s really going to hurt if a whole king worth of coils doesn’t work out, but idk if I’d run into problems with a standalone twinxl coil having stiffer edge coils going down the middle of my bed. Any advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated, including recommendations for any specific coil type.

Thank you

Pele,

Looks like you are a side sleeper.

I bought a BackScience 2 (Luxury Firm) is meant for back and side sleepers. The lower back support is fantastic! It has coils too!

You might want to look at the Back Science 3. It is a bit more plush, but it still has back support. It is designed for side sleepers. I think you will love it.

I feel that Back Science has already done 20 years of research for you and if you dont like it, you can modify it (top Hypergel layer) or return it. So, you basically have zero risk.
