Hello,

My partner and I are looking to purchase a high-quality mattress that will provide long-term comfort and support. For context, I am 5’10” and 140 pounds, and he is 6’3” and 230 pounds. He tends to sweat through our sheets at night, and we are both starting to experience back pain from our current inexpensive Amazon mattress.

As former Division I athletes, durability and proper support are especially important to us. We are hoping to invest in a mattress that can accommodate our different body types, regulate temperature effectively, and last for many years.

Could you please recommend options that would best suit our needs?

Furthermore, queen, king, and cal king mattresses are available with what we call “split layers,” which means you can have us cut the layers down the middle (from head to foot) so that you can have a different feel / firmness on your side versus your partner’s side, and you can adjust each side independently over the 20 year lifetime of the mattress. About 95% of our mattresses go out with all split layers from top to bottom, and we get zero complaints on being able to feel the split and we get zero complaints about the layers shifting or anything like that, even if you sleep right on the middle of the mattress.

For what it’s worth, if you like the feel of laying on latex, I can highly recommend Sleep EZ. We bought our new bed from them about a month ago, and it’s making a real difference in my ability to actually sleep. The latex sleeps cooler than the memory foam I used to use, and the cotton and wool outer layer help with breathability as well.

My husband and I ended up loving the support of the mattress exactly as recommended by Sleep EZ, but found it just a little too firm for our comfort. Instead of making changes to the mattress layers (which Sleep EZ makes easy), we opted to add a topper to each side of our bed. I’m wondering if you are more partial to an innerspring, a hybrid, or a latex mattress?

We do have several mattress options constructed of all-natural, durable materials. A split queen or split king could accommodate both of your needs.

I went through a similar rabbit hole when looking into mattresses because my partner and I had completely different ideas of what felt comfortable. One thing I found interesting with Matelas Personnel is that they don’t approach it like a typical mattress store where you just pick soft, medium, or firm from a few models. They build mattresses around the person, so things like firmness preference, sleeping position, and support needs are taken into account.

Since you’re shopping for two people, I’d probably focus less on finding the mattress with the best reviews and more on finding a setup that can actually accommodate both of you. Are you both looking for the same feel, or is one of you usually happier on a softer/plusher mattress while the other prefers something firmer?
