Next Steps Advice sought for DIY Latex Mattress - Lower Back Pain

I’m putting together a DIY latex bed and looking for advice on next steps to address lower back pain. I’m 5’-9", 190 lbs, and sleep on my back 100% of the time. I have a platform bed frame and purchased toppers from Sleep on Latex.

My current setup is two firm 3-inch Dunlop latex toppers for the support layer, and one soft 3-inch Dunlop latex topper for the comfort layer. When I lie in it awake, it feels great, but when I fall asleep I wake up with lower back pain. What do you recommend as the next steps to address the lower back pain?

Try removing the soft layer for a couple nights to see if firmer is better or worse. That will give you the direction to go in.

Thanks for the tip, will try it over the next few nights and report back.

I removed the soft layer the past two nights and it was definitely better, the lower back pain has been dissipating. The first night there were no issues, but the second night I began to get severe pain in my upper back just below the neck/shoulder blades, right at the point my back contacts the pillow. Switching pillows helped, so I thinkI this second issue may be a problem with the pillow. Any more advice on how to fine tune this and how to find the right pillow?
