After 15 years with an OMF Orthopedic Premium Pillow Top that we have been happy with, it is showing detectable signs of wear in the comfort layer and looking to replace it. We like OMF and are open to purchasing from them again. On a recent visit to their showroom, their Orthos Ultra Pillow Top innerspring mattress seems similar to what we currently own and we like the familiar feel of this mattress. However, given the popularity of latex foam being more conforming to body shape, we tried both their Opulence Latex Hybid (1-sided) and Opulence Latex (2-sided) mattresses—both with 3” of Talalay latex (1” 14 ILD and 2” 24 ILD per side) in the comfort layer. The feel is different (flatter/softer?), but maybe it is a matter of getting used to laying on latex vs polyfoam. We weigh 200/170, height is 6’1”/5’7”, respectively, and primarily side sleepers. My husband tends to sleep hot. While the polyfoam/innerspring mattress has been great for us for many years, concerned that as our bodies age we might need more body conforming/pressure relieving support in the comfort layer. Their Opulence Latex is appealing for its 2-sided feature, but costs more than we had hoped to spend. The Opulence Hybrid model (apparently new) is more than the Orthos Ultra Pillow Top but doable cost-wise. From a long-term performance and durability standpoint, should we go for the Opulence Latex Hybrid model (a little less durable being 1-sided), stick with the Orthos Ultra Pillow Top (within our budget) or splurge on the 2-sided Opulence Latex?
What is the price difference?

Welcome to our Mattress Forum ![]()
It is incredibly rare to get 15 years out of a polyfoam pillow top these days, so kudos to OMF for building such a durable traditional innerspring. ![]()
Moving from that setup to a high-end Talalay latex mattress is absolutely going to feel a bit different at first. Standard polyfoam lets you sink directly into it as it compresses under your body heat, which gives you that classic, deep “hug.”
Latex does the opposite! It is highly elastic and pushes back to keep you lifted on top of the bed while still conforming to your shape. That resilient, floating feel is exactly why it might feel a bit “flatter” or unusual during a quick showroom test.
Given your heights and weights, your instincts/concerns about your bodies needing better pressure relief as you age are correct. Side sleeping puts a lot of concentrated stress on your shoulders and hips. While your old mattress was great, modern polyfoam tends to soften and break down much faster than it did 15 years ago. (Sadly).
Here is how those choices stack up when you look past the showroom tags:
The Orthos Ultra Pillow Top
Within your financial comfort zone and offers the exact feel you are used to. The catch is that polyfoam is always the weakest link for durability. At 200 lbs and side sleeping, you will likely notice body impressions or a loss of hip support much sooner than 15 years this time around. Boo ![]()
The Opulence Latex Hybrid (1-Sided)
This is a really smart middle ground for your budget, and it solves two major issues:
- Sleeping Hot: Polyfoam acts like a sponge for body heat. Talalay latex is open-celled and highly breathable, so combining it with an open coil system will keep your husband significantly cooler.
- Joint Pressure: That 3" latex stack will cradle your shoulders and hips beautifully without letting you bottom out. Even though it is one-sided, high-quality Talalay latex is so resilient that this hybrid will likely still outlast a two-sided polyfoam bed.
The 2-Sided Opulence Latex
If you want a true 15-to-20-year heirloom bed, this is the gold standard. Because you can flip it to even out the wear and there are no steel coils to fatigue over time, it is incredibly tough to wear out.
If you can swing the splurge for the 2-sided Opulence Latex, it is a fantastic investment for side sleepers your size because it gives you the ultimate mix of pressure relief, cooling, and a lifespan that matches your old favorite.

Thanks Nikki for your detailed analysis of our three mattress considerations. Yesterday we went back to the OMF showroom and spent more time laying on each now that we better understand how they differ in support and feel. We chose the Opulence Latex Hybrid as the best choice of longer-term comfort and affordability as you noted. The showroom manager mentioned prices will be going up starting 6/15, so we’re glad to have gotten in on their current rates. Thanks again for your help.
