Hello! I’ve been mattress shopping for a little while now and just feel so lost in making a decision. I want to find a mattress that is comfortable for both me and my husband, and provides the support we need. I feel like I’m searching for a unicorn!
Background: we currently have a Nolah (10’’ I think, from 2020, no longer sold). It was fantastic for a few years, but I am around 250lbs, and had a pregnancy that took me up to 290 (back down to 250 now). I’m trying to lose more weight before another pregnancy, but health issues make that hard. Anyway, after having my son this past September I realized that there was a large indent in the bed, and my hips started hurting when I sleep. I’ve been just kind of dealing with it for a while, but it’s time to get something new.
Our details:
Me: Side sleeper, 250lbs, hip pain
Husband: Combination Sleeper, 185lbs (ish), Prefers a very soft memory foam feel
We want a mattress that will last us longer than 4-5 years, and provide what we need. As cheap as possible of course. Prefer not a bed-in-a-box that uses less dense memory foam (for durability)
The thing that most confuses me is that as a plus sized person it is recommended that I get a firmer bed, but as a side sleeper it’s recommended I get a softer bed. How could I get both?? I’ve looked in to hybrids but it’s hard to find a durable hybrid from a good brand that has a memory foam top and not a pillow top feel. I’ve been to 5 stores now and find things that feel nice, but when I research see bad reviews of the mattress or company, or mixed opinions on plus sized/side sleeper.
Maybe I’m just overthinking this and just need to buy a mattress. My husband also suggested that maybe we don’t worry about durability and just buy a new mattress every 3-4 years so we get the comfort/memory foam feel we prefer.
Thank you so much for the help
