Overwhelmed Newbie looking for guidance

My wife and I have been sleeping on probably a 15 year old innerspring mattress from Denver Mattress. Both of us don’t sleep well, we wake up sore, and I drive her crazy with my restless leg syndrome :frowning: . While beginning research, I stumbled across TMU via a Reddit post. I’ve spent the last few days reading and I’m experiencing paralysis by analysis. From the reading I’ve done, it sounds like Latex may be the way to go. However, I’ve read about different mattress types… all Latex , hybrid (innerspring and latex), and DIY mattresses. I really have no idea which would be best for my wife and I.

Locally here in Peoria, IL most of the mattress stores sell the name brands. A few are regionally factory direct outlets (Lebeda, Verlo, and Denver). I believe Verlo actually builds the mattresses locally. Ideally, we’d like to be able to try a mattress out in person. However, I’m not sure the local stores would have the various types of Latex options we’d be interested in, allowing us to make an informed opinion. Plus we don’t necessarily have the time to spend hours mattress hunting and testing. At the same time, I’m concerned with ordering something online that I may end up having to return. Am I looking for the path of least resistance? yes…hey, at least I’m honest :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it risky to purchase a mattress online? From the sounds of it, the ‘trusted members’ sell quality products and are very informed. But through a phone conversation, can they truly gather enough information to minimize the risk of purchasing a site unseen mattress?

I also have to think the box spring we have is no good either. Would it be advised to also purchase the manufacturers recommended foundation or could we just get this anywhere ? (ex. Amazon)

Here’s our specs…
I am 5’ 11", weigh 185 pounds, and am primarily a side sleeper…though my wife tells me I end up on my back a lot…snoring. Sometimes I’ll switch to my stomach, mainly just to try a new position to fall asleep in.

She is 5’ 4", weighing 160 pounds and is a side sleeper for the most part. She has fibromyalgia and also has painful bursitis in her hip. Would be great if we could find a mattress to help her with this.

Budget wise, we can spend $1000…maybe a tad more if need be.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can provide some direction.

Help!

Thank you for reaching out to us. Due to your budget restrictions it pretty much leaves out the best choice which is an all latex mattress. The only thing that we would have that will come close to meeting your budget requirements would be our Eco Sleep model - Eco Sleep Hybrid Latex / Pocket Coil Mattress, Latex Mattresses-Talalay and Dunlop, All Products, with the Soft Talalay as the comfort layer choice.

You can always call Verlo to see if they have something like that but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be out of your budget range but perhaps you can try it out and get a feel for what I am recommending. You can search for a Savvy Rest dealer in your area. They have a hybrid similar to ours that you can try as well.

I’ve been matching people up to the proper model and comfort level for over 22 years just over the phone so I do have an excellent track record of getting it right the first time but I understand your concerns about buying something sight unseen. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Ken,
Thanks for taking the time today to speak with me on the phone.
I have a question on your DIY system. How would a 6" core and 3" medium compare to the Eco Sleep model you recommended, both in comfort and long term durability? Unless I’m missing something, the total cost would seem to fit my budget…maybe because of the Half Price sale?
Thanks
Rob
