Thanks to your advice I steered away from the $7,000+ OMI (Organicpedic) Terra and went with Nest Bedding’s Q3. It’s been a week and I thought I’d send on my reactions so far.
It’s a total rave. I can’t believe how much more comfortable we are, how much better we are both sleeping every night. Twice our kids came into our bed (more than usual for them), and we were sleeping so soundly we barely noticed. I rush to go to bed each night because I literally can’t wait to get in it. My husband’s sciatica resolved itself before we got the bed, so I can’t comment on any benefits there, but I’m quite surprised how much it has improved the quality of our lives overnight.
I’m so glad we got the latex. It does have this combination of plushness and support. I really can’t remember how it compares to the Terra - they are clearly similar, having a firmer latex mattress topped with a 3" topper - but I’m really psyched with what we have.
One quick note: One thing I did learn from my admittedly brief search is we prefer latex mattresses with the 3" Talalay topper. The “bare” latex mattresses I tried had this “springiness” that I didn’t like, and the topper added a plushness that was a little more akin to the feel of a plush traditional bed. I had a neighbor dismiss latex after trying a standard mattress, only to be surprised how different it felt with the topper on it.
So thanks everyone and hopefully we’re good for a little while.
Thanks for sharing your comments and feedback … and it sounds like in addition to using high quality materials … the choice you made was also a great match for you as well
NOTE ADDED: They are also now a member of this site
It can be surprising to many people how different a separate soft topper can feel even compared to using the same layer inside the mattress cover. There is more about this in posts #3 and #4 here and in this topic and you’re certainly not alone in preferring how the combination feels.
I just returned home from a visit to nest bedding. I was hoping to get away with purchasing their Alexander Signature Select bed but alas, the Q3 Nest Bedding Latex Mattress was heavenly to lay on. I almost fell asleep on my “test lay” LOL
Purchased the Q3 medium. Like the flexibility too of the bed. Can swap the two latex mattresses in the zippered cover, firm on top to make it more firm than medium.
And their customer service is really great. No pressure, really nice to deal with.
When I mentioned to Brook I found nest bedding on mattress underground, mentioned the name Phoenix, we talked about you a little LOL Really appreciate all you do on this site, Phoenix.
I had gone to Sit n Sleep the other day because I thought I wanted memory foam gel mattress and never experienced them before. Didn’t like them much at all, even the foam at nest bedding, though nicer quality. All latex is Da Bomb.
