Good afternoon.
I am moving and decided it is also time upgrade the mattress to improve the quality of my sleep. I am mostly side sleeper and I’ve been having some shoulder pains and numbness lately when i wake up. Sometimes i sleep on my stomach but rearly. I looked at hybrid mattressess at the Sleepare store they recommended me these two
Side sleeper medium hardness and cooling properties would be great.
**Helix Luxe Midnight - ( Queen )
**MLILY Powercool Medium - ( Queen )
I am looking for best bang for a buck but i would like to stay under 2500-3000 or even lower if possible
Maybe a recommendation for shopping locations here in long island.
Thanks,
Jake

I haven’t been out that way in a bit - you can see if SleepWorks is still out in Massapequa?
The Clean Bedroom’s in NYC.
If you don’t mind a little schlep to Jersey, I can recommend a stop at Ethical Mattress in Millburn and Shovlin Mattress in Fanwood, and Orange Mattress in Clark. (Those are all within a 20min drive of each other, easy enough to hit all 3 on a single weekend afternoon.)
Good luck!

Hey Jake,
I got to try both mattresses yesterday while on vacation in San Diego. After comparing the materials, foam density, and overall quality, I think the Helix comes out on top.
The Mlily mattress has a “power cool” feature built into the base, using fans attempting to move air through the entire thickness of the mattress. This could help reduce heat buildup within the mattress, though you might not notice the airflow as much once you add sheets and a mattress protector.
Overall, as the base mattress portion goes, the Helix seems like the better choice. I find the Helix Elite Series, a better option if your budget permits. Stores like Sleepare and Yawnder let you swap out the comfort layer if the firmness isn’t quite right, which can save you from returning the whole mattress. The Elite series incorporates a zippered comfort layers, microcoils for a cooler sleep environment, it offers some of the highest density memory foam layers, at 4 and 7lbs density and the comfort layer as mentioned with swappable.
With my mattress combination, (currently using the Plank Luxe) I have been testing a Perfectly Snug Smart topper. It has fans built into it to keep you cool and dry, and it can be programmed to adjust temperature based on your sleep cycle to help maintain the appropriate climate for a complete night’s sleep. It even has sensors to help warming you up when needed.
@hmmwrites offers a lot of great choices for mattress shopping, most are within 45 minutes of my home. Anyone of those would be great choices for having a more customized mattress crafted. I would add Shifman in that line up too, as they have a couple of lines that start in your price range. They have a quilted line and timeless collection that may have a mattress that meets your needs. Additionally, Brooklyn Bedding Heritage, is a beautiful most all natural mattress that is very cool to sleep on.
Keep in mind those independent mattress manufacturers can craft mattresses made with all natural fibers, which are naturally cooler to sleep on than most all synthetic foam mattresses.
Hopefully this gives you some food for thought.

Side sleepers do particularly well on a full Talalay latex mattress due to it’s increased ability to relief pressure point yet also provide good support. It’s also great at cooling because it is open cell construction which means you will have great airflow. If you are under 200 lbs I would recommend going with the Medium base core and the 3" Soft topper configuration. Take a look at our model here - #1 Selling Latex Mattress- Adjustable Ultra Plush, Latex Mattresses-Talalay and Dunlop, All Products, and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Jake,
As mentioned, we are in NYC, Soho area. The Naturepedic EOS is very popular and can give you customized firmness which may help your shoulder. Naturepedic mattresses typically go on sale around Labor Day, which would bring them in line with your budget. If you want to go even lower, the Serenade is a nice affordable choice - all natural materials.
Latex would offer you more customization, but at a higher price. If you stop into a showroom, you can check with them on the showroom price for the Obasan models. The Obasan Classic would allow you to customize the upper body feel to be a little softer.
Both of these are all natural/organic materials, which will be much more breathable and comfortable to sleep on.
Two other thoughts:
Adding a topper to any mattress will help you have more cushioning for your shoulder - and cut down on wear and tear on the mattress, making it last longer.
Often shoulder pain can be related to the type of pillow, especially for side sleepers. So be sure to give attention to that. I believe @Maverick has an article about pillows on here - and many posts explaining the options.
Best of luck with your search! Let us know if we can help.
