Topper advice for latex hybrid too firm

Hi all,

I used this forum to find my current bed in 2021. It’s a Flexus Comfort Quadraflex hybrid, 8” pocket coils and 3” latex. I can’t find the specs atm, but I’m pretty confident the latex I chose was soft. Don’t know the ILD and Flexus seems to be defunct now so I can’t get info from them.

I was happy with my mattress until recently as I’ve started to have some hip and pressure point pain. I’m 5’4”, 130 lb side sleeper. I’m trying to figure out if I could add a topper to my current setup to get a more soft, plush feel to relieve the pressure point pain. I’m considering a latex topper, or another type of topper that can achieve this. Memory foam I’m worried about heat, but i would consider it if it is the best thing for my situation. Thanks!

Hi bfg411 and thanks for reaching out on this! My advice is to get a 2” soft Talalay topper to make the mattress moderately softer, and a 3” soft Talalay topper to make the mattress much softer. if you think it’ll help, we have free latex samples that you can order here - https://sleepez.com/product/product-sample/

Thank you I have ordered the sample pack. After writing my original post I realized I left out that I am also having lower back pain and waking up in the night. It’s not simply pressure point pain. Do you have any advice on an all latex vs latex hybrid? I’m wondering if the coils are part of the problem.

Oh OK, a topper should actually help with that as well! It sounds like you’re getting back pain from a lack of “secondary back support.” Secondary support is needed to fill in the gaps between your body and the mattress – back sleepers normally need secondary support to fill in the gaps between the small of their back and the mattress; side sleepers normally need secondary support to fill in the gaps between their mid-section and the mattress. If these parts of a person’s body aren’t supported by the mattress, their muscles will work throughout the night to hold these parts of the body up, and by the time they wake up they’ve got back pain. So a Talalay topper will provide pressure relief for your hips and shoulders and secondary support for your lower back, so I think you’re in good shape on this!
