Topper vs switch out comfort layer?

Hi TMU friends,

We’re working through our mattress configuration and think we’re almost there. We’ve settled on a custom configuration with a firm QuadCoil at 14.75 gauge and 3" latex in a pillowtop compartment. My husband seems happy with a medium talalay on his side. I’m working now with a soft Dunlop, which is giving me a good balance of support and comfort, but find I’m still waking up in the middle of the night with some pressure points on my hips. I’d like just a little more “hug” from the mattress, some additional pressure relief without sacrificing support.

I could ask the company to send me an extra-soft Talalay to see how that works. Alternatively, the Dunlop is a little shy of the 3" height of the Talalay. I could try to place an egg crate topper (Turmerry and Cozy Pure make a latex one) either inside the cover under the wool quilting (could be tight, but the 1.4" one might fit). Or I could try to find another thin topper to place on top (wool, feather, or similar). I know I do NOT want a second 3" layer as I dislike skyscraper beds and that’s too much more height.

Any thoughts on what these options are likely to do and how to think about the tradeoffs? The extra-soft Talalay would be included in the comfort guarantee from the company, but if not likely to help I don’t want to ask them to ship another component to us (we’ve been through a few rounds already).

Thanks!

I love the feeling of extra soft talalay. Thats what avocado puts on their box top and luxury model beds

It’s probably my first choice since it doesn’t add cost to us, but I’m just worried that there’s something about how the Dunlop responds to me that’s part of what I’m liking now - medium Talalay was giving me back pain.
