Replacing our very firm and very old current king mattress with boxspring ( I won’t tell you how old it is- too embarrassing) and have been lurking these threads. I finally signed up for helpful advice from all the experts on this page. We like firm, to be clear we probably like very firm. The only 2 mattresses we have ever found as possibilities for replacement were in Airbnbs One was many years ago the Vantage II firm hybrid and more recently a Costco Tempurpedic Cloud in firm. I am starting to sleep hot now so also concerned about temperature. After researching (a lot) online we thought we wanted a Brooklyn Bedding thermoregulated elite so before our play in NYC yesterday (we are in south western Ct) we went to a Sleeploft showroom to try them out. To our surprise (although we liked all the BB options on the floor as well as the Helix offerings) we laid down on an Avocado Extrafirm organic and both my husband and I looked at each other and said “this is it”. To be clear they did have a plank twin to try out, but I don’t think it was a luxe and we both rejected it so the verdict on that one is clearly pending as I don’t think the luxe was available. We laid on the other avocados as well as a naturepedic and didn’t fall in love with those, only the extra fir. Essentially we want to try the extra firm avocado, happy that it’s latex w/ little off gassing but concerned about longevity and returning if it sags.I believe this mattress only came out in July 2025 so not many reviews available and of course, no long term user information. Avocado offers 365 trial but the salesman reported 120 days but he may have been mistaken. Is it safer to buy directly or with another mattress dealer? Literally nowhere to try out mattresses in my state, but clearly we were shocked at what our “real life” results were yesterday. Any advice appreciated! (we are normal size/weight sleepers but are unique in that we really really like firm:) Oh we did like the titan as well but not as much as that avocado hybrid in extra firm. Also any advice on support/foundation as I hear it’s really really heavy and don’t want it to sag. Thank you!!!
Avocado does make great beds and because it’s extra firm i doubt you’d ever have to worry about durability.
For a frame, you could look through these options. This is a popular company
Thank you, lovely to hear that re: Avocado - hadn’t even looked into these until our surprise results yesterday. I should have been clear we already have a king bed frame so looking for a foundation that will support the weight of the mattress properly (which insures the warranty) that also has some height (the extra firm organic mattress is 10.75 inches so a foundation that is 6 inches tall would work best as we have a total of between 14 and 15 inches (with current mattress and boxspring) but could go up an inch or two if needed on our current bed frame. Thank you for responding and for your help.
I see. This foundation is extremely well built as it’s made for heavy sleepers but that also makes it suitable for anybody: King Heavy-Duty Mattress Foundation | Big Fig
