What firmness to select?

Hello! Happy to.have found this site and looking for a new king size mattress. Just tried (and in the process of returning!) a Dreamcloud premier hybrid. It was way too soft and sank in too far… (im about 250 and wife is 220)

Was interested in the split firmness option, but starting with firm/firm with the option of going one side to medium if the firm was too firm. How much sinkage is normal with the DLX premier hybrid?

Any idea how the medium compares to the dreamcloud, since its rated medium as well?

I didnt see option for firm/firm on the website, but read on here that it was an option…

Thanks!

@DLX

Thanks for considering DLX!

It sounds like you’re dealing with some support issues, which might be related to what’s underneath the mattress. The foundation or base can have a huge impact on how a mattress feels, and a lot of times, inadequate support can cause that sinkage you’re experiencing. I’d suggest testing the Dreamcloud directly on the floor to see if it feels any different. Also, feel free to send us photos of your current setup (under the bed and mattress), and we can help assess it.

As for the firm/firm option, it’s not listed on the website, but we do offer it! It’s an off-menu item but comes at no additional cost. Just reach out to us before purchasing, and we’ll provide a link for that setup. If you’re unsure, a split medium/firm might be the way to go, so you can try both sides and see which works better for you and your wife’s different weights.

Since you’re concerned about sinkage and firmness given your weight, I’d also recommend considering our LatexLux mattress. Latex has a natural buoyancy and resilience that might help with the issue you’re experiencing.

Thanks for the response!

Regarding the Latex, how does that do with motion isolation, especially in comparison to the regular hybrid?

@DLX

Great question! The DLX Premier will perform slightly better than the LatexLux in terms of motion isolation, but many people find them to perform similarly. Both mattresses use the same pocket coil system at their core, so you can expect similar support and motion characteristics from each.

However, it’s important to remember that factors beyond the mattress itself can also impact motion transfer. The type of bed frame or foundation you use plays a big role—heavy-duty, solid support significantly reduces motion. Additionally, even smaller details like your sheets or mattress protector can influence motion transfer. Stiffer or heavier fabrics, especially those that are tightly fitted, can increase motion transfer.

Ultimately, just as firmness is subjective, motion transfer depends on your personal experiences. If you’re transitioning from an all-foam mattress, you might notice a hybrid has a bit more motion transfer.
