I have been researching mattresses all year and I’m finally getting to the end of my journey. I have narrowed it down to the Helix Midnight Elite, Saatva RX or the Tempurpedic Luxe or ProAdapt. I am open to other suggestions or lesser known brands, as my expertise is basically zero.
I am a 6’6” 230 lbs side sleeper. I honestly have no idea what I am doing or why I should choose any one of these over the other. They all feel nice when testing in store (haven’t been able to try a Saatva). I’m ready to just start “test driving” them, I think.
Does anyone have any advice before I pull the trigger?
My advice is search facebook marketplace for beds, as i found many of the name brands for much cheaper than retail.
When it all comes down to it a lot of these beds have similar builds, with different archetypes. They’re either poly foam mixed with memory foam, latex hybrid, or polyfoam beds with a mixture of latex and memory foam. Or theres the saatva classic which has an open coil innerspring with a pocket coil spring and just some cotton on top.
If i could go back and do all my mattress shopping again, i would just get a nest and wild hybrid and be done. Im 220 and 5’11" so i was expecting it to be too soft, yet somehow it wasn’t.
The first bed i got was a glacier apex, which i do love and that one is also an amazing bed. After that i did DIY and used a 14.75g quadcoil spring from pocketspringstore, then put their 3" quadmini, and when i visited the nest and wild factory he let me purchase a top layer of what he uses in his nest and wild mattress, which is a hybrid foam of memory and latex. That bed sleeps amazing, but it feels to me like the quadmini is doing most of the work, as the 14.75 gauge spring is very firm. I ended up feeling like their 15.5g spring on its own would have been fine and saved me some money. Which is what nest and wild uses to build their hybrid.
The way the nest and wild comes packaged, and the ease of setup along with the fact his foams are pre stressed and the 15 year warranty he offers… it’s just a workhorse bed and too hard not to recommend. I bought it for my parents and my dad loves it too. He’s 5’6" 180 pounds. So our builds are similar. Im probably pushing in the bed a bit harder than you since I’m a lot shorter and it feels perfectly supportive to me.
My advice is you really don’t have to spend close to 2000 to have a good bed. The midnight luxe would also feel comfortable to you, it’s great. If i had known better i would have tried to find one for a discount on Facebook marketplace. After laying on the nest and wild and seeing it costs less than 1000 for a queen with the 10% discount they offer, I can’t help but recommend it.
