Which latex mattress?

Hello. This is my first post so be easy with me! I have looked at the mattress buying tutorial and a lot of the overview articles here and looked thru the forum quite a bit. I feel like I am suffering from a bit of information overload at this point but really appreciate everything that is here on the site.

My wife and I are planning on getting a split king adjustable base and probably latex mattresses. Our weights are like 165 and 265 lbs so looking for something that will support the weight and also something that will not sleep hot. She has Gastric Reflux and other serious digestive issues and has been told by doctors she needs to sleep with her head elevated. I have severe COPD and am hoping it will help with that also.

At the bedding store we went to in Bellingham, WA where we live the owner recommended a latex mattress called Woodlawn Firm. He gets them from a store in Seattle called 45th St. Bedding. I believe I have seen Phoenix say good things about them on the forum. They call it all natural botanical latex. It is double sided and starts from the top (and bottom) with a cotton/polyester knit, then blended wool pad, then .8" botanical latex, and the middle core is 6" botanical latex. I don’t know if that is enough details to be helpful or not.

We laid on it for maybe 15 minutes and my wife really liked it and I liked it though I felt maybe it was a little hard. I know 15 minutes isn’t a great test but had to start somewhere. They will let us have a 30 day trial period and then trade for something else if we want but they themselves said they probably didn’t have anything else that would work for us so we really need to get it right the first time if we buy there.

I am big at looking at review sites even though i know there are pitfalls there to be careful of. The problem is i can’t find a single review on these mattresses anywhere on the internet. That concerns me a little bit though maybe it shouldn’t. So my question is have I given enough information on this mattress to be helpful or are you informed enough about this mattress already to be able to advise me on it. Any help is appreciated. I also have a question on adjustable bases but this is getting so long I will make it a new post. Thank you!

Thank you for the questions and since my company has been specializing in latex mattresses online for 21 years I’m probably the right person to answer your questions. The construction sounds decent but there is no reference to the firmness of either the .8 latex or the 6" latex. The problem with that is if it doesn’t work for you and you have to go elsewhere there is no starting point without knowing the firmness rating for the layers. What we do here is make our latex mattresses with a zippered cover to allow for comfort exchanges instead of having to return the whole bed and start over again. It does sound like if it doesn’t work out you have to start all over again so it’s a bit of a crap shoot buying that brand.

Moving on to the adjustable bases, because of the weight difference between you and your wife it’s almost certain that each of you will require a difference firmness level to offset the weight discrepancy. It doesn’t sound like that company can do that for you. I’m trying not to be biased here but I have to say given the info you have provided you might be better off buying the latex mattress online from one of us who can do comfort exchanges more easily than the local company can.

Thank you Ken for your prompt response. There is a lot to think about here but I will definitely take your post into consideration.
