Which mattresses don't have enforced perimeter?

Hello,

@Maverick replied to someone else that the Beautyrest PressureSmart mattress has “perimeter edge foam encasement, known as BeautyEdge” which he said minimizes the sleeping area. I have noticed that with my current (old) mattress made by Sealy. Are there firm spring-based mattresses without that perimeter feature for $1250 and under for a queen? (I am mostly a side sleeper, sometimes back sleeper and 5’ 5" female.)

Great question and thanks for including us!

You’re absolutely right: many of the major brands, like Sealy and Beautyrest, use what’s called a foam encasement system, which is typically a 3" rail of high-density foam around the perimeter. While this design can help with roll-off protection, it does reduce the usable sleeping surface and often lacks the durability and support of a true coil edge.

At DLX, we take a different approach. Our mattresses use coils all the way to the edge, with two rows of narrow-diameter reinforced coils around the perimeter to create a supportive sitting and sleeping edge so you’re not giving up space or edge support.

In terms of firmness and comfort, that can be very subjective, especially for side sleepers. To help us give you a more personalized recommendation, would you mind sharing:

  • What mattress you’re currently sleeping on (brand, model, firmness)?
  • Any others you’ve owned in the past 5–7 years?
  • What you liked or disliked about them (too soft, too firm, sagged too quickly, etc.)?

With that info, we can better gauge whether one of our models would be a good fit and yes, we do have options in the $1250 and under range for a queen!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

My mattress is a queen Sealy Posturepedic Rama Gardens Firm bought 10 years ago. Here are photos of the model: Premium Queen Mattress

I liked that it was firm/supportive but had a bit of cushion on top.

(Also, I know I’m writing this on Memorial Day, which is almost over. I would still love to take advantage of any sales in the coming days if possible!)
