Wool comforters

I didn’t see a wool comforter thread when I searched, but maybe I missed it.
Anyway, I live in a warm climate, and I’m thinking of getting one. They are rather expensive from the searches I’ve done. Has anyone tried the one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond? It’s probably cheaper for a reason, but I had to ask.

I can give a few guesses here as I’m a fiber person and familiar with wool.

First off, most of the wool comforters you’ve searched for that are more expensive, have probably been made in the USA- which makes the price higher. Second, Australian wool is very abundant and sells for a very competitive price versus wool grown in the USA. The wool isn’t washable, so it hasn’t undergone the “superwash” process, which adds to the price. Also, Bed Bath and Beyond labels this as “their own”- so you aren’t paying for a “Name”. Although I couldn’t find a “fill” amount or weight of this comforter, it looks thinner than many I’ve seen. The comforter says it is Imported. I doubt it is made in Australia, even though they use Australian wool, my best guess is it’s probably made it China.

I was looking at this particular comforter myself because it looks lighter weight than many I’ve seen.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gizpobow,

While it’s not my area of specialty and comforters would also be a matter of personal preference and of course the conditions in your bedroom … there is some good information about comforters (including wool) in this topic and this topic and this topic and in post #24 and onwards here and this topic that may be helpful.

This article and this article also have some very useful comparisons and information as well.

Just got the Bed, Bath, and Beyond one. I need to find a duvet cover, so I haven’t used it yet. It has a good weight to it, but it’s not thick. The cotton covering is kind of loud. Not sure if that will lessen in time. Will update after I use it.

Hi Gizpobow,

Thanks for letting us know what you decided on and the initial feedback … I appreciate it
