your thoughts on super-expensive mattress?

While waiting for my SleepEZ mattress to arrive, I just happened to read about the Hastens. I could buy 10 of my new mattress for the price of one Hastens.

What makes it so expensive?

I suspect that a lot of it is marketing hype. For example, I question the claim that hand-building and sewing each mattress is a big advantage.

Finally, horsehair sounds like a layer that would get very compressed and unforgiving after a while.

I also wonder if some of the very positive owner comments come from people who need to justify the cost to themselves.

But I’d be curious about your comments.

Hi powerdog,

I think that some of the super premium mattresses are more of a work of art than a mattress. There is a great deal of expertise and laborious and time consuming construction techniques and some very high quality materials that go into them and there is no doubt that they are beautiful, well built, and high quality mattresses. Having said that … I would question from a utilitarian point of view if they can provide any better pressure relief or alignment than any other well designed and chosen mattress. They are for people where how they feel “about” the mattress is just as important as how they feel “on” the mattress and where more typical definitions of “value” don’t apply.
