local manuf southeast pa

Looking for a recommended local mnufacturer … I’m in Chester County PA…thanks

Hi rsterl,

I used a starting point of West Chester and these are the better choices I know about within a range of 50 miles …

http://www.magicsleeper.net/ and http://www.mattressandfurniturestore.com/ Pottstown (or Pottsdown), PA. Local factory direct manufacturer that makes a range of good quality and value mattresses including two sided innerspring mattresses and a number of latex and latex hybrid options. Family owned and good people. They also make custom designs and sizes and and they are also a member of this site.

http://www.verlo.com/ West Chester, Broomall. Regional factory direct manufacturer. Makes a range of memory foam (including gel), latex, and innerspring mattresses. There is a wide range of choices here. See post #17 here for some feedback about the West Chester outlet.

http://www.croydonmattress.com/ Bensalum. Local factory direct manufacturer. They also make mattresses using a range of materials but the value here is not quite in the same range as other local manufacturers. I also had some difficulty getting answers to my more specific questions and he is not as focused on materials and tends to generalities more than most most factory directs.

http://www.yourorganicbedroom.com Doylestown, Paoli. Retail sleep shop that carries OMI, WJ Southard, Naturepedic, Savvy Rest, SleepTek, White Lotus, and Suite Sleep mattresses. These are all high quality mattresses and would make a good place to test various latex layerings but they have a more “organic” focus which also translates into prices being higher than similar products made by local manufacturers.

A larger list centered on Philadelphia/Wilmington/Trenton is in post #4 here

Hi Phoenix,

You probably saved me from the “S” mattress that I was looking into at my last post. I have now visited Gardener’s in Lancaster. They have the pure Bliss and are very nice. All talalay. He took a cover off one to show me the fire retardant cover (he is checking to see what it is made of) and a handful of talalay came off. However, the topper they are selling may not be latex. The owner has promised to find out what it’s made out of. Their Bliss mattresses are better priced in the store than online at the company site. He was very nice about starting with the firm mattress and working with a topper to get a better price. However, we still have the topper question. Online they are listed as slow and quick response toppers, but no contents. Also, the covers on these aren’t too sturdy and he didn’t know what the fire retardant cover was made of. Also, if you are using a handheld, be aware that his website on those is very limited and you need to use a regular computer to get information. He is the closest dealer and a very helpful young man so I would like to do business with him, but am not sure he has what I want.

I spoke extensively with Mark at Magic Sleeper in Pottstown. He has been very willing to work with me and my sister so we are headed there on Friday. He has a new line of organic cotton and wool covers. Also interesting is that he is moving toward making custom latex mattresses. He is very accommodating and I’m looking forward to seeing is products this week. It appears they are also the most economical.

Also visited The Organic Mattress Store in Hellertown, PA. Very high quality covers. All Dunlop, no talalay in their brands. They have Green Sleep and Cozy models on the floor also. Lee knows everything about the contents and was very accommodating. We are going to return there also on Friday.

Hoping to make a good decision soon as my mattress topper from the hospital that I have on a Temp Cloud Luxe is starting to have an indent. Not bad for a freebie as it’s lasted since I made the mistake to go with the TCL.

I believe I am headed toward a 6 inch (would a 6/2 be better…many come with that configuration) medium Dunlop with a quality 3-4 inch softer topper in either Dunlop of talalay.

Any additional advice before the Friday trip would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lynne,

You can see the details of the fire barrier on the PLB site here.

If you mean the PLB toppers … they are all made from Talalay latex even though they make several different types (blended Talalay, 100% natural Talalay and Talalay GL slow and fast response latex)

They are all different versions of Talalay latex.

I would definitely include them in your research. mark is very knowledgeable and they have some good quality/value choices.

Cozy Pure is one of the manufacturing members of this site which means that I think very highly of the quality and value of their mattresses. They are not the least costly option but I know that Cheryl pays attention to every ingredient she puts in her mattresses … right down to the last thread. You can read more about them here (be aware though that the membership discount only applies to mattresses purchased directly from Cozy Pure because the Organic Mattress Store is not a member here).

You are certainly looking at some high quality choices. The best advice I can provide is to make sure you test very carefully and objectively so that the mattress you choose is suitable for your needs and preferences and has the best possible PPP (Pressure relief, Posture and alignment, and Personal preferences). When it comes time to make your final choice then I would make meaningful comparisons between mattresses and options and services offered by each merchant and then choose the one that you believe is the best value according to the parts of your own personal value equation that are most important to you.

Of course if you have more questions along the way feel free to post them here as well
