Mattress Shopping in Central NJ Red Bank area

Was wondering if anyone can point me to a knowledgeable mattress dealer(s) in my area, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Stumbled across this forum and it gives a ton of great information. Been to a bunch of the big box stores and my head is spinning. Reading some of the posts and tutorials to get a better handle.

Hi RonW,

The closest lists to you would be the Monroe Township/Newark, NJ area list here and the list for the Trenton/Philadelphia/Wilmington region here.

Outside of these I took a look at the area around Red Bank, NJ (within about 30 miles) and the better options or possibilities that I could see and the brands I would consider with each on a “mattress by mattress” basis (making sure you can find out the specifics of what is inside any mattress you are considering) would be …

http://redbanksleepshoppe.com/ Red Bank, NJ. Englander (make sure they can provide you with the specs).

http://monmouthmattress.com/ Red Bank, NJ. OMI (premium price latex mattresses), Paramount (the specs may not always be available).

http://www.waltssleepshop.com/ Middletown, NJ. San-O-Pedic. This is their house brand made by Therapedic/Bedding Industries of America so it should be possible to get the specs of these mattresses (Bedding Industries of America tends to be more transparent about the mattresses they manufacture) but there are no details about their price range or the type of mattresses.

http://www.thebedroomgalleries.com/ Howell, NJ. Retailer who carries a range of mattresses including latex in a range of budgets and brands including WJ Southard and Classic Brands.

http://www.mrmattressusa.com/ Toms River, Manahawkin, NJ. Talked with Eddie and he knows his stuff. Carries some Gold Bond two sided mattresses which would be worth considering here. Very knowledgeable about mattress materials and specs but doesn’t carry any latex.

As always … I would call first to talk with any retailer you are planning to visit along the lines of this article to make sure they are willing to provide the information you need to make an informed choice and to get a general sense of their level of knowledge and service.

Thanks for the reply. I actually saw a thread that mentioned a couple mattress stores about 30 minutes north of me. Wound up buying from Shovlin Mattress Factory. They were friendly, knowledgeable and answered all my questions. And best part of all they weren’t pushy and didn’t hawk over my wife and myself while we shopped. Met the owner while we were there and he was very friendly and personable. We’re very happy with our purchase. I’m very happy to have found this site and have passed on the link to a couple of friends who are or will be looking for a new mattress in the near future.

Hi RonW,

As you know I think highly of Ron and Shovlin Mattress Factory and they have also just become the newest member of the site as of a few days ago. I just added them to the membership list today and will be updating the posts in the forum that mention them in the next day or so as well.

It’s always great to hear about the differences in customer’s experiences when they are dealing with “mattress people” that are focused on helping and educating their customers instead of the more typical salespeople in much of the mainstream industry who are trying to sell you whatever they can convince you to buy before you leave the store.

You certainly made a great choice … and congratulations on your new mattress

I’m looking forward to your feedback when you’ve received your mattress and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit.

Apologies for posting to an old thread - didn’t see a need to start a new one.

I’ve been suffering with a full zize Grandmore EuroTop for a couple of years now and I can’t take it anymore. Due to it losing its form I’ve been basically sleeping on a curved surface for some time and my lower back cannot continue to bear it. I live in Central NJ and based on all that I’ve read on this site (and specifically this thread), I’m going to try Shovlin Mattress Factory in Fanwood. My budget may only allow an innerspring but we’ll see.

The only thing I’m curious about is my choice of pillows. I’m mostly a side-sleeper, but at times on my back. The pillows I have now are very thin and firm and when I sleep on my side I usually end up with pain and discomfort in my shoulder/neck area. I’m wondering if that could be the pillow or the mattress. Probably both.

Anyway, thanks for a great informative site.

Hi durnib714,

Pillows are an important part of a sleeping system and keeping your spine in good alignment. Upper body issues including shoulder and neck issues are often the result of an unsuitable pillow rather than a mattress issue although it could be either or both. Side sleepers typically need a thicker pillow than the other sleeping positions because the distance between the head and neck and the mattress is greater and a thicker pillow is often needed to ho9ld your head up higher and keep your head and neck in better alignment and reduce the pressure on your shoulders. Different mattresses can also need different pillows to keep your head and neck in good alignment as well because if you have a softer mattress then you will sink in more deeply and reduce the distance between your head/neck and the mattress surface. There is more information about choosing a pillow and some links to other pillow topics on the forum in the main pillow topic here that should be helpful

I’m looking forward to your comments and feedback after your visit to Shovlin Mattress.
