I read a lot on this forum many years ago (2013). I was needing a new mattress at the time (we were moving and I wanted to downsize to a queen). Honestly, I ended up not really being able to use any of the suggestions here due to time and money and ended up buying a mattress during a local good sale. I think it’s a Serta innerspring one with a gel foam eurotop on it. Got a great deal on it, so I was good on viewing it as ‘temporary’ if need be. It hasn’t been that bad. A year ago I did add a 3" memory foam topper to it. I’m not currently unhappy, but I’ve just been curious about other kinds of mattresses lately. Full memory foam doesn’t appeal to me that much as the times I’ve laid on one, I just feel like I get stuck in it and that I get hot. I thought latex was out of the budget, but started seeing more offered at lower pricepoints, so that got me doing more research.
I ended up ordering the Roma from SleepEZ. I liked that the company has been in business a long time and that they seem respected on this and other forums. Their all latex model really appealed to me, but I could not justify the cost. I also have had a really hard time picking out a hardness. I’ve used guides and calculators on various websites and still could not decide between medium and firm. So, with the Roma being medium on one side and firm on the other, I felt like it would be a good compromise. I will still have my foam memory topper if needed.
Since my original post in 2013, where I was 225 lbs, I gained weight (up to 245 lbs) and then have lost weight. I’m now at 160 pounds, so still overweight, but not considered obese like I was before. On some calculators, my BMI (27) put me ordering the firm, but my goal weight (lose another 15 pounds) has me in the medium. I also toss and turn a lot during the night. I think I end up sleeping most on my side and back (suggest a medium), but I also like to stretch out on my stomach (suggests a firm). I do get some hip and lower back pain, but less so since I lost weight and am able to sleep more on my back. Hopefully, I will like at least one side of the Roma!
I have this foundation ordered ($170). Amazon.com The slats are supposed to be just under 3" apart (seller says 2.89"). I used a Labor Day code and got 10% off the mattress with free shipping. No tax since I am in a different state, so the mattress ended up being $675. Cheap for latex, but more than I have ever spent on a mattress before.
Thank you again for all the info on this site and I really hope this mattress works out for me!
